What to expect?

The acupuncture intake session consists of an in-depth conversation about your reasons for seeking treatment, your medical history, personal history, current lifestyle, and an acupuncture treatment. Please eat a meal before treatment, wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing, and please refrain from wearing any strong perfumes or scents.

It is important not to expect deep lasting change from one session only, although in the majority, people feel palpably better than when the walked in. Although deep lasting change after one session does occasionally happen, it is not the majority. There is a saying- ‘A seven mile walk into the woods is still a 7 mile walk back out of the woods’. The first session is an introduction to treatment, and results from the first session tend to vary from person to person. What I do see in the majority of cases however is consistent improvement over time with a cumulative effect when there is consistent treatment. Meaning for example, if you come in with a level 8/10 pain and you walk out of my office with 0/10 pain, if the pain comes back, after the second treatment, in the majority of cases, that pain is less than the original 8/10, and with each treatment diminishes and takes longer to return if it does.

Consistency of treatment timing is important for the best outcome, such as once a week for 4-6 sessions in the beginning, and then spacing treatment out from there as you consistently feel better. Just like in nature, everything, including the healing process, has its timing and just the right conditions to flourish.

That said, I also see people less frequently, such as once a month for maintenance, or once a season simply for preventative medicine and seasonal ‘tune-ups’, and I also have patients who come in for an issue that resolves, they then take a break from treatment, and later return should other concerns arise. All of the above circumstances are good depending on your situation.

Please book a free 15 minute phone call if you have any questions about your circumstances and treatment.

Do you take insurance?

I am an in-network provider for American Specialty Health and United Healthcare. I also provide a super bill as a statement/receipt of your treatments which you can submit to your provider if acupuncture is covered. You may also use your HSA account for payment. If you are interested in using your insurance for acupuncture, it is helpful for me to know how many sessions a year your policy covers, what your copay is, and if you must meet a deductible before starting treatment. Please schedule a free 15 minute phone call if you have any questions. I do not accept Medicare.

What is your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved for you.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours advance notice, including notice on Fridays for Mondays. I understand that emergencies do arise and take circumstances into consideration case by case. Without 24 hours notice, you may be charged for the appointment in full. If you do not appear for a scheduled appointment without notice, you will be charged for the appointment.

Afraid of Needles?

One of the styles of acupuncture that I practice is a unique style of acupuncture called Neoclassical Acupuncture. In Neoclassical Acupuncture I often utilize only one needle in treatment and see amazing results. This treatment is a face-up/clothing-on treatment which makes things easy for those who are concerned about the thin almost human-hair-sized needles used, and where movement is potentially limited with regards to disrobing for whatever reason.
